Let’s face it – Daylight Saving Time – is it us or does it confuse you as much as it does us. Yes, the extra hour of sleep is lovely, but did you know that studies have shown that just 1 hour change in sleep can be bad for your health including increased levels of depression (…sigh) and tiredness (…yawn). That got us thinking “what can you do to survive daylight saving time?“. So, we put on our thinking hats, sat at a computer and did some research to come up with Frozen Fruit Co’s top 3 tips to survive daylight saving time.

But first…

Why do you have daylight saving time?

Did you know that we originally introduced the change in time so that farmers could have more light in the early mornings during the winter. Also that Hawaii and Arizona are the only two States in the USA who say “no” to changing the clocks. In fact, because it gets so hot in Arizona residents preferring the longer cooler evenings.

Our 3 tips to survive the clock change

So, aside from eating plant based ice cream (of course) what can you do to survive the DST change. Here are our top three tips:

Tip 1: create and stick to a sleep schedule. Studies have shown that people who stick to a rigid schedule sleep better and wake up more rested than those who don’t.

Tip 2: don’t over sleep. Wake up the same time on weekends as you do during the week. Sleeping in, especially on weekends, can make you feel more tired and change your cardiac rhythm.

Tip 3: make the effort to exercise more. Yes, it is dark at 5pm but exercise will help you sleep better and adjust to time changes. Set a time and do a little exercise each day (our personal personal preference is when we just wake up).
