Newsletter – Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Swirl

This week at Frozen Fruit Co…

Hello lovely people and welcome to this week’s newsletter. This week at Frozen Fruit Co: (1) Bobby gets married; (2) Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Swirl Returns; (3) Sunday is Grandparents day; (4) we tell you what our special days are this week; and (5) we are no longer hidden behind scaffolding (hooray).

Welcome to the Second week of September.

But, before all of that here is a fun fact: Snakes can sense a coming earthquake from 75 miles away (121 km), up to five days before it happens.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Swirl Returns

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Swirl

Okay, so Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Swirl flavor (we shortened the name – we thought “Vanilla Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Swirl” was a bit too long, significant improvement don’t you think 😐), was an absolute hit. We couldn’t stop making the flavor over Labor Day Weekend.

Being so popular, how could we deny you and not turn this into a new SPECIAL Flavor for Saturdays. Yes, that is right say hello to “Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Swirl Saturdays”. It is now officially a thing.

Made from our Vanilla flavor with chopped up chunks of our homemade chocolate peanut butter cups and a swirl of unsweetened peanut butter added in (just for good measure).

HOLD ON WILL IT BE ON THE TRUCK?

Yes, you will be able to get Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Swirl on the truck this weekend and all day Saturday at the Santa Monica Store, while stocks last.

Special Flavor Days

“Can someone please tell me what exactly are the SPECIAL DAYS – I need to know”.

Great question. For your ease of reference here are the special flavors days at the Santa Monica Store:

Tuesday – Chocolate Peanut Butter Tuesday

Wednesday – Cheesecake Wednesdays

Thursday – Sweet Laurel Cookies and Cream

Saturdays – Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Swirl

September 13th is National Grandparents Day

Did you know that Sunday 13 September is National Grandparents day. Yep, that right – Grandparents have their own day. Grandparents day is always the first Sunday after Labor Day. Just like Father’s and Mother’s Day, Grandparents get a whole day to themselves (why it isn’t split up like Mother’s or Father’s day…we will never know).

Marian McQuade is officially recognized nationally by the U.S. Senate and by President Jimmy Carter as the founder of National Grandparents Day. McQuade wanted to educate the youth about the importance of seniors and the contributions they have made throughout history. She urged the youth to “adopt” a grandparent and learn more about their lives, challenges, and desires for the future.

Wow, you read this far…

Wow, you read this far. You are the type of person who looks at their email box and says “I want to read that”…that or you just want the riddle. As a reward, here is your riddle:

Every night I am told what to do, and each morning, I do what I am told. What am I?

Answer to last week’s riddle: You’ll find me in Mercury, Earth, Mars and Jupiter, but not in Venus or Neptune. What am I?”. Answer – the letter “r”

BIG LOVE

Scaffoling

Hey.

Hey.

Hello lovely people and welcome to this week’s newsletter. This week we: (1) hide the store behind scaffolding for 3 weeks 😐; (2) we give you the answer to the World’s hardest riddle; and (3) we share the latest in dating technology.

Welcome to the third week of August lovely people.

But, before all of that here is a fun fact: did you know that in Switzerland it is illegal to own one guinea pig. Yep, that’s right. Anyone who wants to own a guinea pig in Switzerland has to have at least two guinea pigs. The reason – guinea pigs are social animals.

Scaffolding, Scaffolding, Scaffolding

Scaffoling
We’ve been scaffold-ed! Yep, there is no other way to put it. Our little Santa Monica store will be hidden behind an array of scaffolding for the next three weeks due to construction at our building 😐😐😐.

BUT, fear not. The Santa Monica store on Montana Ave will remain open as normal (1 pm to 10 pm) daily for take out and online orders. And also fear not you don’t actually have to walk under the scaffolding to get into the store – phew!

Dating App for Dog Lovers

Dogs. We all love them, but wouldn’t it be great if there was dating app that connected dog lovers. Yep, you read that right. Searching the internet we came across Dig – the dog person’s dating aim.

Dig aims to match you with someone who will love your pet as much as you do or better yet allow you to find someone you can get a dog with in the future. Best of all you and your dog both get a profile!
Awww, we thought this was a nice feel good story for the newsletter. If you go on to use the app, let us know.

Answer to the World’s Hardest Riddle

World's hardest riddle

“Under pressure. Pressure”

Did you answer “pressure”? Well, if you did then you are an actual genius because that was the answer to the world’s hardest riddle.

Forgot what the riddle was. Well, here is a reminder below.

I turn polar bears white

And I will make you cry.

I make guys have to pee

And girls comb their hair.

I make celebrities look stupid

And normal people look like celebrities.

I turn pancakes brown

And make your champagne bubble.

If you squeeze me, I’ll pop.

If you look at me, you’ll pop.

Can you answer this riddle?

August

Newsletter – Hello August!

This week at Frozen Fruit Co

01 August 2020

Hello lovely people.

This week at Frozen Fruit Co what does the first week of August, Salted Caramel and 15% off e-gift cards all have in common. Well, nothing much, aside from the fact that all are happening this week! Oh yeah! Welcome to August Lovely People.

But, before all of that here is a fun fact: Bananas glow blue under black lights. To the everyday eye under normal conditions, ripe bananas appear yellow due to organic pigments called carotenoids. When bananas ripen, chlorophyll begins to break down. This pigment is the element that makes bananas glow, or “fluoresce,” under UV lights and appear blue. Don’t believe us try it 😐.

Hello August and Salted Caramel

Hello August. The eighth month of the year. Named after the founder and the first emperor of the Roman Empire, Augustus Caesar. Did you know that in the early Roman calendar August was actually the sixth month of the year and contained only 30 days, however this was changed so that it would match the number of days in July (which was named after Julius Caesar).

August is also the month we celebrate National Watermelon Day (Aug 3 – yay) and National Smile Week (Aug 5-11 – we will be smiling under our masks this year – we promise).

Aside from all of the above and being the last full month of Summer – August also marks the return of Salted Caramel. One of our most popular special monthly flavors ever made. Made from Coconut Cream, Date and a dash of Sea Salt (that’s it) – this flavor is our take on the modern classic of Salted Caramel.

Salted Caramel will be available in our Santa Monica Store from Saturday 1 August until the end of the month. Catch it while you can.

15% off e-gift cards are back!

To celebrate the arrival of August we decided to bring back 15% off e-Gift cards for the first week of August. Use the button to get one while you can. Hurry, though, the 15% off will only be available from 1 August to 7 August.

Wow, you read this far. You are amazing (unless you skipped to this bit – in which case you missed out on the fun fact of how Bananas glow under UV lights). As a reward here is your riddle. Can you solve it?

You enter a room that contains a match, a candle and a kerosene lamp. What do you light first?

Answer to last week’s riddle: “First, think of the color of the clouds. Next, think of the color of snow. Now, think of the color of a bright full moon. Now answer quickly what do cows drink?”. Did you say “Milk”? The right answer is “Water”. Cows don’t drink milk.

Big Love, like lots of it.

Newsletter – Last week for Coffee

This week at Frozen Fruit Co…

Hello lovely people.

25 July 2020

This week at Frozen Fruit Co: (1) it’s the last week for coffee; (2) we make some almond butter cups; (3) we make lots of pints, pints, pints, (4) we get a GIANT new A sign (seriously, it is massive), and (5) Truckie gets a new schedule.

But, before all of that here is a fun fact: Did you know that “Second Street” is the most common street name in the U.S.; ‘First Street’ is the sixth. Next stop “Second Street”.

Last Week For Coffee

summer coffee

Java, Joe, Dirt, Mud, Brew or just plain ol’ Coffee. Whatever you like to call your “morning nectar”, we can all agree we love Coffee. On average, we drink 3.1 cups of coffee per day (if you don’t like coffee you may want to skip this bit).

Did you know there are over 38 different ways to drink you coffee, whether its a Lungo, Cafe Cubano, Ristretto, Espresso Romano (that’s with a slice of Lemon), Espressino or Cortado – we can all agree on one thing. The best way to have your coffee is as an ice cream (seriously, what were you expecting us to say).

July’s special flavor is coffee. Made from Coconut Cream, Coffee and Date (that’s it). This week will be the last week for Coffee before our new monthly special arrives on 01 August (Salted Caramel).

So, if you love coffee then be sure to get your scoop on this week. It’s your last chance before coffee disappears.

Peanut Butter Cups

Newsletter – We Started Making Peanut Butter Cups

This week at Frozen Fruit Co…

Hello lovely people.

This week at Frozen Fruit Co we: (1) ordered a new pretty neon sign (it’s pink); (2) we ordered a new freezer (which was super exciting – it is when you run an ice cream business – we promise); (3) we worked out how to fix a tripped compressor on our ice cream machine (extremely handy information to know even if it did take 4 hours to do); and (4) oh, yeah how could we forget, we started making peanut butter cups for the store.

But, before all of that here is a fun fact: The first oranges weren’t orange.

The original oranges from Southeast Asia were a tangerine-pomelo hybrid, and they were actually green. In fact, oranges in warmer regions like Vietnam and Thailand still stay green through maturity.

We Made Peanut Butter Cups

Peanut Butter Cup

Bobby – “Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could make peanut butter cups”

Michael – “Bobby, you got to be kidding. I don’t have the slightest clue how to make a peanut butter cup. Just thinking about it gives me a migraine.”

But, wait. Why couldn’t we make a peanut butter cup. A completely plant-based peanut butter cup that was only sweetened with fruit sugar. Well, one peanut butter mold, a migraine and some help from Billie and Tamara (our team members) and what do you know.

We created the world’s first (we are just going to take that title) completely plant-based peanut butter cup made from exactly 5 ingredients: Coconut Oil, Cocoa, Date, a touch of Sunflower Lecithin and Unsweetened Peanut Butter. That’s it. Rich, dark chocolate with creamy peanut butter in the middle. Our peanut butter cups are the perfect little treat to add to your scoop.

Say hello to our new peanut butter cups. Available as a topping from our store as a topping (while stocks) last.

Newsletter Summer

Newsletter – 11th July 2020

This week at Frozen Fruit Co…

Hello lovely people.

This week: (1) it’s a Californian heatwave; (2) Coffee is back; and (3) find Truckie this weekend.

But, before all of that here is a fun fact: The longest place name in the word, at 85 letters, is “Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu,” New Zealand. Locals just call it Taumata Hill. If anyone can actually pronounce this let us know.

How to Survive a Heatwave

This weekend it is going to be hot. Like super hot. Like 100 degrees F hot, which (even if it is not in Celsius) is HOT. Even for California. With the “mercury rising” we thought we would share a few tips on how to stay cool in the Summer heat.

1. How to stay cool without AC? – freeze a bottle of water and place it in front of a fan. The cold bottle will help blow cold air at you.

2. Eat more salad – yep, in Summer we tend to eat more salads mostly because these types of vegetables have more water content helping to keep us hydrated.

3. Drink more water – that is pretty self explanatory.

4. Cool your pulse points – the quickest way to cool yourself down is to cool yourself at your pulse points. Apply something cold, like a cold towel, to your pulse points to cool down quickly.

5. Eat more ice cream (what you think we weren’t going to include this in the list).

Coffee, Coffee, Coffee

summer coffee

Coffee is back! Our new special of the month our coffee flavor is made from coconut cream, coffee and date. Creamy with a wonderful hint of coffee.

This flavor has, literally, been one of the most requested to come back. So, we thought about it, listened and decided to bring it back.
Coffee will be in the store until the end of the month.

What can’t be burned in a fire nor drowned in the water?

Answer to last week’s riddle: “How can you place 10 coins in 3 cups so that each cup contains an odd number of coins?” Answer: Put 3 coins in one cup, then put 2 coins in the second cup, place the second cup in the first cup. The two cups together have 5 coins. Put the remaining 5 coins in the last cup”

Question Mark - Riddles

Our 10 Favorite Riddles

98If you can’t tell we love a good riddle at Frozen Fruit Co. Whether it is the weekly riddle we write on our windows at the store or the one we leave at the end of our newsletter (yes, we know some of you literally scroll to the bottom of our newsletter just for the riddle…you have a problem), we just love a good riddle.
To share our appreciation of all things “riddle” we thought we would share 10 of our favorite riddles. Answers are at the bottom of this blog.
But, first…

What is a riddle?

A riddle is a statement, question or phrase which has a double or veiled meaning, put forth as a puzzle to be solved (thank you Wikipedia).
Riddles can be two types. They can be (1) enigmas; or (2) conundra.
Enigmas are problems expressed in metaphorical or allegorical language that requires careful thinking in order to solve (for example, I’m tall when I’m young and I’m short when I’m old. What am I? A candle). These are more logical based riddles.
Conundra are usually difficult questions that rely on using a play on words (for example, what is the longest word in the dictionary? Smiles, because there is a mile between each ‘s’). These are the types or riddle that make you think riddles are silly or non-sensical.

Our 10 favorite riddles

  1. The day before two days after the day before tomorrow is Saturday. What day is it today?
  2. What is the missing number 16, 06, 68, 88, [?] , 98
  3. What word has three consecutive double letters?
  4. A man rode into town on Tuesday and left two days later on Tuesday. How?
  5. I have two fruits. If you rearrange the name of 1 you get the other. What are they?
  6. I am a rare case where today comes before yesterday. What am I?
  7. What can be seen in the middle of March and April that can’t be seen at the beginning or end of either month?
  8. What gets wet while drying?
  9. What can you break, even if you never pick it up or touch it?
  10. If you have me you want to share me. If you share me, you haven’t got me. What am I?
